CORVID-19 Hill-walking is great exercise and it is good to get out in the outside world and it is inherently safer and healthier than staying indoors. But we still lneed to take precautions whilst outside. Please do not go out walking if you are showing sisns of Corvid-19. When out walking make sure you give people space - 1m at least and preferable 2m. Remember that if it feels too crowded then walk away and try somewhere else. If you get into difficulty the MRT will come out to help you but they should not have to put themselves into danger from this virus. Take Care Out There.

This is the far north west of the Peak District. The route takes us round four of the small reservoirs in this area of the Peak District and onto the edge of Saddleworth Moor. It can be a bleak place up here, and a good day is needed to get the right impression of the area.

From the car park take the track and cross the dam of Yeoman Hey Reservoir. Once over follow the track south along the true left bank of Dove Stone Reservoir. Continue to the end of the reservoir where Chew Road is met. Follow this good road up into the moors. Stop at the disused quarry just short of the Chew Dam. A track can now be followed along the top of the edge. The path follows the ill defined edge north until it meets Great Dove Stone Rocks and Dean Rocks. Follow the path around until it meets Ashway Clough (?) at the more significant path. Follow this to Ashway Stone, a good place to stop and appreciate the ruggedness of this moorland. Great on a sunny day, less so in full mist. (7.0kms. 180m. 2hrs. 30min.)

Because we are on the edge here, there are good views from Ashway Stone west down the valley to the reservoirs. Continue north then follow the edge east to reach the high ground above Birchen Clough. Continue walking around the edge until Birchen Clough is reched, then follow a small path alongside the stream to reach the track that follows around the reservoirs. Now back to the start via this track going around the north of Greenfield reservoir and then onto Yeoman Hey reservoir. At the dam ascend to the starting point. (4.5kms. 30m. 1hrs. 30min.)
