The Peak District, and especially the Dark Peak is a magical place. It is the southern area of the Pennine chain which is the spine of Northern England. It coincides with the northern part of the Peak District National Park. Come here to visit in autumn when the trees are changing; in winter when the tops are white and not black; in spring when the grasses and flowers are budding; and you can find solitude here.
The Gristone Edges run along the eastern boundary of the area, from Chatsworth in the south to Stanage in the north is a highlight of the area. The magnificent sweep of Stanage Edge viewed from Hathersage is one of the most iconic views of the Peak District, indeed the UK.
In addition to the edges, the area is famous for the large moorland areas of Kinder and Bleaklow. It may not have peaks, as the Lake District, but these moors are great places to get out hiking. They are famous for the vast boggy ground but recent environmental work has made these areas a much more pleasant area walk.
