CORVID-19 Hill-walking is great exercise and it is good to get out in the outside world and it is inherently safer and healthier than staying indoors. But we still lneed to take precautions whilst outside. Please do not go out walking if you are showing sisns of Corvid-19. When out walking make sure you give people space - 1m at least and preferable 2m. Remember that if it feels too crowded then walk away and try somewhere else. If you get into difficulty the MRT will come out to help you but they should not have to put themselves into danger from this virus. Take Care Out There.

Chatsworth Edge is the southerly of the edges on the east of the Peak District. Not long in length and in the trees, Chatsworth is not one of the most popular edges. The edge lies on the Chatsworth estate with the tracks in the lower fields and concessionary paths along the top of the edge. To achieve a circular walk this route starts at the Chatsworth Estate Car Park. It is possible to start at the Robin Hood car park at a smaller fee.

From the car park follow the roads on the west of the Chatsworth House Buildings towards the woods. Follow te road around to the right around the back of the sawmill. Follow this road to the turning to the left at SK265700. Turn uphill and continue along the road to reach the Hunting Tower. Well worth a walk around and a look at the view over the peak district here; especially as the walking has been in the trees. (1.5kms. 100m. 0hrs. 40min.)

From the tower continue along the road north, past timber operations to a wall. A nice stile allows the walker to cross. Dobbs Edge is here on the right. It is not a significant edge; there is no real edge more rocks and boulders.. There is a path along the wall a few meters away from the edge. Another style is reached and crossed. his marks the start of Chatsworth edge. The path follows the top of this edge. The higher cliffs are at the north end. Much of this edge is surrounded by trees. Thus the edge does not stand out and the rock has a green or even red dirty look to it especially in winter. Following the path along the top, eventually the walker reaches a prow at the northern end, where the path starts to descend to eventually meet the A621. Time to turn around here. (3.0kms. 50m. 1hrs. 0min.)

To return to Chatsworth House, the walker must retrace their steps along Chatsworth Edge to the valley between this edge and Dobb Edge. Cross the wall again but this time descend the path alongside the valley. Here a nuber of distict paths are seem that descend to one of the main tracks on the estate. When this track is reached turn left and follow this back to the car park through the firleds of the estate. Can be very busy in prime holiday time. (2.5kms. 40m. 0hrs. 50min.)

30th December 2019 Chatsworth is always very busy around Christmas even though the house is shut. Lots of people here. Very busy with parking on the grass. However away from the House and up to the edge the crowds thinned to only a few hardy soles. Godd to get away from them all and for views over the estate and beyond. Walked down throug the estate and as usual saw two herds of deer.
