A very short walk up to Bamford Edge. Worth doing on an afternoon or after work. Despite the short length this walk is well worth it for the views, especially north to the Upper Derwent Valley. Indeed this is one of the best viewpoints in the Peak District.

From the parking cross the stile and take the right hand (least popular) of the paths. This path climbs uphill to reach an old quarry. There is a path on the right of the quarry that leads to the top of the moor. From here there are some great views over to Stanage, the whole of the edge gives a great vista. Continue to follow the path, tending left to reach Bamford Edge itself. Climb up to the height of the edge. Bamford edge is not as complete as Stanage nor Burbage but around this high point the cliffs are of a similar height. From here there are good views especially over to the west with Win Hill. Continue to walk along the length of the edge, which starts to descend. There is a prominent overhanging rock further along the edge. From here there is the classical view from Bamford Edge towards Ladybower Reservoir. Indeed this view of the reason many people visit this edge. It is worth walking downhill until the path starts to drop steeply. There are good views in all directions along the edge. The Upper Derwent valley to the north, Win Hill to the west, the central Peak District to the south and Stanage Edge to the east. Stay a while taking in the views in peace, if the edge is not too busy. (2.0kms. 80m. 0hrs. 50min.)

To return, turn around and follow the path along the edge all the way. The cliffs are not continuous along this edge and at the southern edge they have all but disappeared. Keep to the path along the edge line, climbing uphill towards the end of the edge. Then walk south down the path from where the parking will eventually be seen. The descent to the parking is steep. 17th June 2024 A really nice summer's day giving great views especially over to Stanage Edge. Once at the edge height the view along the Upper Derwent valley was spectacular. Quite a number of people about, so not a day to sit about in peaceful surroundings.

25th September 2023 A really windy day but sunshine. It is amazing how busy this edge is. There were a lot of people out given this was a weekday at the end of September. The sun allowed for some good views especially north to the Derwent Valley

5th August 2021 Rain was promised for the afternoon. The walk along Bamford Edge is good for a coffee outside. With such great views especially the view up Ladybower. A very busy walk, the influence of Instagram.

15th August 2019 This is a short walk but well worth it on a clear day. Set off in afternoon after a wet morning. Once up on the edge the clear views up the Derwent Valley are really good. This is edge gives a commanding view of much of the Peak District.

31st December 2018 Despite the cold and windy weather the views here are great. Looking over to Win Hill, Mam Tor, Hope Valley and in particular the Derwent Valley. Only a few people out despite this being holiday time.
