Fire Risk in the Peaks: There have been numerous fires in the Peaks. These fires not only kill the ground level vegetation but also can go deep underground and destroy the underlying peat. There are signs all around the Peak District indicating that naked flames be they fires, barbecues, stoves or indeed any naked flames are banned in the Peak District. There is a hefty fine if these rules are broken. Take care when out walking and protect the Peaks. [July 2026]

| Westend Moor feels very remote for such a busy area. There are few obvious routes that pass this trig pint hence the quiet location. The trig point is set on top of the flat ridge giving good, distant views especially of Bleaklow but also of the southern Peak District. | |

| Summary : | Howden Reservoir (Western Arm) - Ditch Clough (track) - Alport Castles (Birchen Hat) - Westend Moor Trig Point - Birchen Hat - Ditch Clough - Howden Reservoir |
|
Westend Moor is set in a the large wide and unfrequented area of land.
Te trig point is set amidst typical Peak District moorland with few paths
lots of heather and peat. Recently there has been much work to control the
fast flowing water after rainfall and the area is much improved.
There are two obvious walks to the trig point, The shorter is to walk up from
the Westend via Ditch Clough to Birchen Hat and then to the trig point.
The longer route is to walk down from Bleaklow Stones, over 4km of moorland, plus
the walk to Bleaklow Stones.
