Fire Risk in the Peaks: There have been numerous fires in the Peaks. These fires not only kill the ground level vegetation but also can go deep underground and destroy the underlying peat. There are signs all around the Peak District indicating that naked flames be they fires, barbecues, stoves or indeed any naked flames are banned in the Peak District. There is a hefty fine if these rules are broken. Take care when out walking and protect the Peaks. [July 2026]

Stanage High Neb

Stanage High Neb
Grid Ref : SK227853
Height : 458
OS Map : 110
Stanage Edge is the most impressive of the gritstone edges. It covers a long, 5km, sweep from north to south along the east of the Peak District on the Sheffield / Derbyshire border. The edge is especially picturesque in the evening sun. The edge rises and falls from the south at Burbage Bridge to the north at the A57 near Moscar Lodge. The high point is High Neb with it's trig point. Views to the west here, over Bamford Moor and onto the Hope Valley make the walk to this point well worth the effort. To the east the outskirts of Sheffield can clearly be seen emphasising the proximity of the city to this area. But the best view is south along Stanage Edge itself and down to the Derwent Valley with Chatsworth being visible in times of clear visibility.

Walk to Trig Point
Summary : Dennis Knoll Car Park - Long Causeway - Stanage Edge - High Neb - Long Causeway - Dennis Knoll Car Park.
High Neb can easily be reached from any one of the car parks on the minor road to the west or by approaching from Redmires Reservoir to the east. The simplest way is to park at Dennis Knoll by the trees on the minor road below Stanage Edge. From the car park follow the track, the Long Causeway to reach the top of Stanage Edge. From here follow the well worn path for less than 1km to reach High Neb trig point. A simple walk along the Roman Road, and then along Stanage Edge to reach this the high point of Stanage and this trig point. Actually this is the less popular part of Stanage Edge and a walk along here can be a quiet and relaxing time away from the masses. The trig point is set in an area of peat along on the main path onto of Stanage Edge.
