Fire Risk in the Peaks: There have been numerous fires in the Peaks. These fires not only kill the ground level vegetation but also can go deep underground and destroy the underlying peat. There are signs all around the Peak District indicating that naked flames be they fires, barbecues, stoves or indeed any naked flames are banned in the Peak District. There is a hefty fine if these rules are broken. Take care when out walking and protect the Peaks. [July 2026]

| Kinder is the large plateau that dominates the northern Peak District. There are a number of Trig points on this plateau and this trig is arguably the most remote. Good views, as you would expect over to the Snake Summit and Bleaklow beyond as well as over to the west and Manchester. | |

| This route takes in some of the Pennine Way from the Snake Summit south up to Kinder and nearly onto the Downfall. A brief walk across the moor to the trig point. | |
The easiest route, the route with the least climbing starts at the Snake Summit. Take the Pennine Way south to Mill Hill. There is a good path all the way, paved in the most part. From here again follow the Pennine Way south to the cross-paths at the top of the Snake River. Straight ahead here and then climb onto the Kinder Plateau. The path continues around the west of the Kinder Plateau past Sandy Heys. From around SK076892 take a bearing north to reach the trig point. (5kms. 130m. 1hrs. 50min.)
Return by the same way. Make over the moor to meet the Pennine Way. As the route is so near it is worth going onto Kinder downfall to have a look at this waterfall which often flows uphill or rather upwind!! Follow the Pennine Way path back to the Snake Summit (5kms. 20m. 1hrs. 30min.)
