Fire Risk in the Peaks: There have been numerous fires in the Peaks. These fires not only kill the ground level vegetation but also can go deep underground and destroy the underlying peat. There are signs all around the Peak District indicating that naked flames be they fires, barbecues, stoves or indeed any naked flames are banned in the Peak District. There is a hefty fine if these rules are broken. Take care when out walking and protect the Peaks. [July 2026]

| There is a short walk to this hill but it can be combined with a longer walk over Houndkirk Moor. Great views over to Sheffield. A good game is to see which buildings can be recognised from this walk. Also good views over the moors and especially north to Stanage Edge. | |
Cross the road and through the gate. Follow the good track running the length of the south west side of the plantation to a gate. Go through the gate and continue along this track to the path junction. From here there are extensive views of south west Sheffield. Now turn around, retrace your steps to the gate. Don't go through the gate but follow the path on the left just before the gate at the gap in the fence. Now follow the path along the fence line until there is a path on the left that rises up over the moor to the trig point. Follow this path onto Burbage Moor and then over to the trig Point which is clearly visible here. (2.5kms. 60m. 1hrs. 0min.)
The short way back. Follow the path along the high point to reach Ox Stones themselves. Worth an explore around these interestingly shaped rocks. From the first of these rocks, descend the path for 50m then at the path junction take the path on the lft to reach the gate at the corner of the plantation at the road. (0.5kms. 0m. 0hrs. 10min.)
