Fire Risk in the Peaks: There have been numerous fires in the Peaks. These fires not only kill the ground level vegetation but also can go deep underground and destroy the underlying peat. There are signs all around the Peak District indicating that naked flames be they fires, barbecues, stoves or indeed any naked flames are banned in the Peak District. There is a hefty fine if these rules are broken. Take care when out walking and protect the Peaks. [July 2026]

Summary : A625 Roadside - Totley Moor - Trig Point - Totley Moor - A625 Roadside
Start :Road Junction On the east side of the A625, near to the junction with the A6187. There is some parking on the road verge.[SK268795 368m ]
distance : 4.0km.
ascent : 40m.
time : 1hr. 20min.
A short walk over the moors from the road to the trig point. The walk is on tracks but these can be wet. Once over the brow there are good views over Sheffield as well as north to the Burbage Valley and Sir WIlliam Hill.

Start on the A625, at the junction. From here there is a track over the moor. Follow this path. It passes a mound with an air-shaft which is the Totley tunnel on the main railway line from Sheffield to Manchester. The trig is obvious from the moor as it stands at the high point, and can be easily seen. Right at the first path junction and again right at the second, leads to the trig point itself. A good view all around with the split between urban to the east and rural to the west. (2kms. 40m. 0hrs. 40min.)

Return the same way; left at the first path junction and again at the second. Easy to see the way, make for the tunnel air shafts and then the road. (2kms. 0m. 0hrs. 40min.)
